Phineas gage (harlow, 1993/1868) one of the first case to contribute to the knowledge of brain function. Gage was a railroad foreman that while working got a metal rod pierced through his left eye up through his frontal lobe and out of his skull. But he was less able to control his emotions, and his decision making abilities suffered. Lacked cognitive control needed to be a railroad foreman. From this we learned that the frontal lobe is important for emotional regulation and decision making. Tan lost the ability to speak (tan was one of the few sounds he could make). When tan died, broca examined his brain and found damage to the frontal lobe and near the front of the temporal lobe. This area of the brain is called broca"s area. Broca"s aphasia disorder caused by damage to this area. Wernicke"s area is found in the left temporal lobe close to the front of the occipital lobe.
