Assessment is a procedure through which info is gathered systemically that sets base for diagnosis. Diagnostic provides number of criteria for disorders. Would classify disorders on the basis of presenting symptoms (pattern of behaviours), ethology (history of development of symptoms and underlying causes), prognosis (future development of behaviours), and response to treatment. Large number of people would be assessed physically and psychologically. People would have been observed over long period of time. Various treatment would have been tried in a controlled fashion to look at e ectiveness. Scienti c research and human beings are not this neat and organized thought. Most believe a good diagnostic system is essential and is done by: Reliability (consistent every time) and inter radar reliability (when two professional agree on diagnosis of patient) Interest dates back to at least middle ages.
