Document Summary
Depth perception: involves interpretation of visual cues that indicate how near or far an object is. Can be classified into 2 types: binocular and monocular: Binocular cues: binocular depth cues are clues about distance based on differing views of the two eyes. Retinal disparity: refers to the fact that objects project images to slightly different locations on the right and left retinas so the right and left eyes see slightly different views of the object. The closer the object, the greater the disparity. Convergence: another binocular cue which involves sensing the eyes converging as they focus on closer objects. Monocular cues: monocular depth cues are clues about distance based on the image in one eye. Motion parallax: involves images of objects at different distances moving across the retina at different rates. Pictorial depth cues: clues about distance that can be given in a flat picture.
