Normal distribution is a symmetrical, bell shaped curve that represents the pattern in which many humans characteristics are dispersed in the population. Percentile score: indicates the % if people who score at or below a particular score. Psych tests are relative measures: asses how people score on a trait relative to others. Correlation: exists when two variable are related to each other. Investigators often want to quantify the strength of relationships between 2 variables: they depend on extensively on a useful descriptive static called the correlation coefficient. Correlation coefficient = a numerical index of the degree of relationship between two variables. Indicates the direction (+/- ) of the relationship. Indicates the strength of the relation between the 2 variables. + correlation(may also have no sign) means two variables co-vary in the same direction. Correlation means two variables co-vary in the opposite direction.
