Document Summary
Learning: any relatively durable change in behaviour or knowledge that is due to experience. Phobias: irrational fears of specific objects or situations. Agoraphobia: an intense fear of being in public places where it may be difficult to escape from or in which it might be difficult to obtain help. Classical conditioning: a type of learning in which stimulus acquires the capacity to evoke a response that was originally evoked by another stimulus (pavlovian conditioning) Stimuli in the external world controlled out actions & behaviour. Psychic reflexes (later called conditioned reflex): dogs started salivating before meat presented. When click sound heard they salivated because meat was given after that sound for a while so they were expecting meat next. Next, a tone was presented before meat and dog salivated at sound of tone, a neutral stimulus. Conditioning must be evolutionary adaptive, contributing to our reproductive fitness.
