Ability of a leader to get high performance from his or her subordinates. 5 perspectives: power-influence, trait (competency, contingency, behaviour, transformational. Legitimate power that comes from their hierarchical position does not necessarily build commitment from employees. Strategic thinking: cognitive ability to analyze complex situation, abstract from it, and draw conclusions about the best strategy for the firm to follow: combination of intelligence and reasoning skills, see big picture with great clarity. Achievement motivation: unconscious concern for achieving excellence in accomplishments through one"s individual efforts: high degree of intrinsic drive. Power motivation: unconscious drive to acquire status and power and to have an impact on others: getting things done in organization often requires individuals to accumulate power and use it to influence others. Charisma: ability of some people to charm or influence others: exceptionally high self-confidence, strength of conviction, and assertiveness or social dominance, and often superb communicators.
