In mesoamerica, in what is now southern mexico and central america, where there was ample rainfall supported a series of complex civs. Archeologists divide the early history of this region into three periods. )- the era of the full-fledged mayan society: postclassic (900-1500 c. e. ) the first of the toltec, later the aztecs. The maya classic period: usually less complex societies merge with more complex societies through warfare. In the classic period the mesoamerican people built on olmec achievements to become more advanced. Agriculture trade and cultural contacts: during the preclassic period the maya built village based agriculture. Between 7000 and 1500 b. c. e. the world was considerably warmer than it is today. Hunting whipped out animal populations, so hunting became less important than agriculture: mayan agriculture had a diet of corn, beans squash, chili peppers, and tropical fruits. Protein came from deer, birds,peccaries, armadillo, and dogs.
