Community ecology=study of the pattern and processes of species interactions. Autotrophs= organisms that capture solar energy for photosynthesis to produce sugars. Example : green plants, cyanobacteria, algae, chemosynthetic bacteria use the geothermal energy in hot springs or deep-sea vents to produce their food. Detritivores - scavengers waste products or dead bodies. Decomposers - break down leaf litter and other non living material. *energy, biomass and numbers usually decrease at higher trophic levels(most energy is lost through respiration) Exploitation efficiency =i/p,in a prey population(p) some survive and some are eaten(i).
