Human development passes through 5 psychosexual stages. There is meaning that exists in all that we do. Freudian slips verbal errors delivered to reflect our unconscious thoughts, emotions, or desires. Lack of consideration of cultural variables ex. gender. The psychoanalytic approach: development is a primarily unconscious and heavily coloured by emotion. It is important to analyse the symbolic meanings of behaviour. Id: according to freud, the element of personality consisting of instincts, which are an individual"s reservoir of psychic energy. Ego: executive branch of the psyche, used for reasoning and decision making. Superego: the moral branch of the personality, which takes into account whether something is right or wrong- conscience. Ego must resolve conflicts between the demands of reality, the desires of the id and the constraints of the superego.
