Document Summary

Each of us carries a genetic code we inherited from our parents. Code is in every cell in our bodies. Because of the human genetic code, a fertilized human egg cannot grow into an eagle or elephant. Identical twins ( one fertilized egg) fraternal (different fertilized eggs) Nucleus of each human cell contains chromosomes. Chromosomes: threadlike structures that are made up of deoxyribonucleic acid or dna. Dna: (deoxyribonucleic acid) a molecule in the shape of a double helix; contains genetic information. Genes: units of heredity information composed of dna act as a blueprint for cells to reproduce themselves and manufacture the proteins that maintain life. Proteins are the building blocks of cells as well as the regulations that direct the body"s processes. Chromosomes, dna and genes change during meiosis & mitosis. All cells in your body except the sperm & egg have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs.
