When creating a web page, you add tags (known as markup) to the contents of the page. These tags provide extra meaning and allow browsers to show the appropriate structure of the page. Structural markup - elements that you can use to describe both headings and paragraphs. Semantic markup - provide extra information such as where emphasis is placed. To create a paragraph, surround the words with and - bolds the text or make a text appear differently. - italics (used for technical terms, names, foreign words, thoughts etc. ) If the browser comes across two or more spaces next to each other, it treats it as one space only . (known as white space collapsing) Typically used to indent code to make it easier to read. - line break in the middle of a paragraph. Elements with a combined opened and closing tag (ie. br and hr) are known as empty elements.
