Document Summary
Early childbearing was much more common among blacks than whites in general and more common in the four cities. Considered age at childbearing in relation to the probability that the parents would be ali(cid:448)e at the (cid:272)hild"s t(cid:449)entieth (cid:271)irthday. If adult mortality is high the more adaptive strategy os to reproduce early; if your survival in mid adulthood is reasonably secure you can afford to reproduce later on in life. Health policies should instead be aimed at understanding and mitigating the causes of high rates of adult mortality in these areas. The prolonged growth of adolescence offers unique opportunities for learning the complexities of adult roles. During adolescence not only do weight and height differ amongst boys and girls, but fat patterning begins to change. Females gain more fat in general, particularly on their limbs and hips and legs. Males less fat overall, particularly on their trunk. For them the economic contributions of females are seen as minimal.
