The irb is deemed as the foulest of things that feed upon the happiness of researchers. The author indicates that this is not a sought-out after career path for sociologists, but she has found it rewarding. Her role is to facilitate research and advocate for the right and welfare of persons. You cannot lose what you do not have, by choosing to not retain any personal information about a person you are protecting yourself and them. Irresponsible researchers are not subject to daily scrutiny as irb reviewers as they have a long road of working to help individuals through the process and no one has top priority. During an analysis, it demonstrated that persons have had frustrating and disappointing experiences with the irb. Some say that they are not informed enough and cannot balance the risk and benefits, resulting in name calling. Having research reviewed is stressful and no one wants it to be delayed through regulation.
