Main idea: greater transparency in regards to methodological procedures. It is not a method of interpretation but an effort to reclaim particular meaning in regards to the scientific method in regards to the social sciences. Thus, flagging the issue of miscommunication and that the meanings actually demonstrate a collective manner through different philosophical lens. It does not capture the entire range of non-quantitative methods used within empirical research. One of the main discussions is what is meant by the term science and whether or not there should be one science in the realm of social sciences. Many share a focused meaning: both do not travel under the same philosophical umbrella when it comes to procedures regarding reality and knowability of the inquiry in question. The taxonomy arose during the historical movement of solidifying the use of computer processing and its ability to process large amounts of data with less involvement from humans: qualitative originally designated features of chicago school ethnography/participant.
