Chapter 1 the study of human development. Human development = mulidisc. study of how people change + how they stay the same. Nature vs. nurture: nature-nurture issue = issue concerning the manner in which geneic and environmental factors inluence development, mutually interacive inluences; dev always shaped by both. Universal vs. context-speciic development: universal versus context-speciic developmental issue = issue of whether there is one path of development or several, some believe there only 1 dev pathway, opposing view. Human dev intertwined w context in which it occurs: basic dev order same in all cultures, but how those skills are focused/ encouraged in life difers across cultures. Basic forces in human development: the biopsychosocial framework. Biological forces = all geneic and health-related factors that afect development: ex. prenatal dev, brain maturaion, puberty, menopause, facial wrinkling, cardiovasc funcioning changes, determined by geneic code + incl. efects of lifestyle factors ex. diet/exercise.
