Article 1 being able to evaluate research claims objectively is an important skill; we must know the difference between poorly vs carefully conducted research. Scientist behave like jury members and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence. Two tools lie at the heart of sound research : experimental evaluation based on random assignment and random sampling. Random sampling : take a small proportion of people (say 1000 out 50million people); they then base what the whole pop. Is like on the answers of the few. Random sampling is when every single person from that population has an = chance of being selected. Non response bias : is a small number of people respond to the survey then there is no way of knowing weather they would answer in the same way as people who did.
