It"s not really about sense perception - it is about conscious experience, It does not normally occur to us that there is any need for us to justify our belief in the existence of material things. At the present moment, i have no doubt, whatsoever that i really am perceiving the familiar objects. When the man says he sees material things; is surely wrong; for material things is not an expression which the ordinary man would use-nor, probably, is. There is no one kind of thing that we. Making the man seem naive: it does not. I recognize indeed that people are sometimes deceived by their senses, but this does not lead me to suspect that my own sense- perceptions cannot in general be trusted. That people are sometimes perceived by their senses does not lead him to suspect that all may not be well.
