Document Summary

Chapter 2: frequency distributions: tabulating and displaying data. Frequency distributions list data value in a sequence, usually in ascending order tally occurrence of value total frequencies for each data value (f) (4 people have 2 siblings therefore, for data value of 2, the f=4) Sum of (f)s for all data values must equal sample size. Percentage = relative frequency (relative to how many people are in the study) Cumulative percentages: sum of everything above it. With nominal variables you cannot have cumulative percentages. When data has many possible values, a regular frequency distribution may be unwieldly therefore, frequency distribution are grouped. Psychologically appealing (multiples of 2, 5, 10, 50) Bar graphs are used for low level datas (nominal and ordinal: typically for nominal, ordinal if you dont have too many options. Exact same data as bar graphs, make it physically appealing. Histograms looks like a bar graph but bars touch. Same as histograms but use lines instead of bars.
