CMN 2180 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Weak Interaction, Century Media Records, Cultural Appropriation
Document Summary
Mid 20th century there was a consensus of what was going on. Minorities weren"t involved (concludes consensus of the majority) We went from strong government control to very weak control of business and wealth. We now have trouble making the wealthy accountable - there is a social contract in which the wealthy owe society something, but they break this contract to keep their finances. Polarization takes place and the internet bursts on the scene. Every mass communication we have encountered has been strongly controlled by governments and corporations, to put us in a passive acceptance of it (very different structure than today) We weren"t allowed to produce media unless we were within the system. The promise of the voice now - threatens the elite. All that has to happen is for words or images to slip through, and were back to the possible radical change of this control system. Remarkable change, ways of producing our own media.
