He believed that the processing that went on, at each of these stages were different, and they could not begin until the processing at the stage before them were completed. The difference in reaction time between c-reaction task and b-reaction task reflects the time to perform the response selection. C-reaction time involves stimulus discrimination whereas a-reaction time does not. The difference in reaction time between a and c reflects the time for stimulus discrimination.
