Culture: a system of values and norms that are shared among a group of people, and that when taken together consitute a design for living. Values: abstract ideas about what a society believes to be good, right, and desirable: shared assumpions about how things ought to be. Norms: social rules and guidelines that prescribe appropriate behavior in paricular situaions. Society: a group of people who share a common set of norms and values. Values provide the context within which a society"s norms are established and jusiied: includes: aitudes towards freedom, democracy, jusice, social obligaions, marriage, etc, invested with considerable emoional signiicance, relected in poliical and economic systems of a society. Norms: social rules governing people"s acions towards one another: two types: Social convenions (dress code, manners, neighborly behavior, etc) Mores: norms seen as central to the funcioning of a society and to its.
