You need a proper structure to put people together. We need to divide them either horizontal or vertical. We see who has similar skills we group them together under the same function. The assignment of jobs to departments is called departmentation. It represents one of the core aspects of the horizontal division of labour. 50, 60 or 100 employees with 1 or 2 product line that one is very easy to maintain. As your organization expands you many need to restructure your organizat ion. You structure your organization based on the product. You need to create a divisione. g. airlines, catering, etc division. These require specific skills and qualification very good, repsond quickly to customers, highly specialize in that function it is expensive, you are duplicating all functions. Cross functional team we use our existing resources and assign teams for a new product or project. Coordination and communication is great however the problem is the unity of command.
