ADM 2336 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Tacit Knowledge, Explicit Knowledge, Long Term Ecological Research Network
Document Summary
Employees learn two basic types of knowledge, both of which have important implications for organizations. Explicit knowledge knowledge that is easily communicated and available to everyone; a large part of what companies teach during training sessions. Tacit knowledge knowledge that employees can only learn through experience. Up to 90% of the knowledge contained in organizations occurs in tacit form. As an employee, it shard to build a high level of tacit knowledge without some level of explicit knowledge to build from. We learn through reinforcement (i. e. rewards and punishment, observation, and experience) Four speci c consequences used by organizations to modify employee behaviour (increase desired behaviours and decrease unwanted behaviours) Positive reinforcement a reinforcement contingency in which a positive outcome follows a desired behaviour; the most common type of reinforcement: increased pay, promotions, praise from a manager or co-workers, public recognition.
