Module 2: adapting your message to your audience. In an organizational setting, a message may have 5 audiences: Initial audience receives the message first and routes it to other audiences. Sometimes tells you to write the message: primary audience makes the decision to act on your message, secondary audience may be asked to comment on your message or to implement your ideas after they"ve been approved. May also include lawyers who may use your message as evidence of your organization"s culture and practices: gatekeeper has the power to stop your message before it gets to the primary audience. Gatekeeper: executive assistant who decides which personnel get to speak to the boss, sometimes the supervisor which assigned the message, sometimes higher in the organization ex. Regulatory boards: watchdog audience has political, social or economic power. They pay close attention to the transaction between you and the primary audience and may base future actions on its evaluation of your message.
