BUSI 1020U Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Proofreading, Form Letter
Document Summary
Planning, writing, and revising can include analyzing, collecting information, composing, assessing, getting feedback, revising, editing, and proofreading. Revising means re-seeing the document from the reader"s point of view; you revise to maximize positive audience impact while satisfying your purposes. Editing means making surface-level changes for correct grammar, punctuation, and usage. Proofreading means checking to ensure the document is free from typographical errors. Practiced writers expect to revise the first draft, read and write regularly, have clear goals, know many different strategies, wait to edit until the first draft is complete, and regularly ask for feedback. To think of ideas, try brainstorming, freewriting (writing without stopping for 10 minutes or more), and clustering (brainstorming using visuals). You can improve the quality of feedback you get by telling people which aspects of the draft you"d like comments about. Look for patterns in the feedback you get. If the writing task is new or difficult, plan to revise at least three times.
