Rousseau (1712-1778) began his theories of human nature, what humans would be like before society existed. Happy savages didn"t interact with one another or have language. Thought that of humans as brute animals and modern extreme of decadent civilization, best stage in human development. Durkheim disagreed with this (humans can"t exist without society) Socialization: lifelong process of learning our society"s norms, customs and ideologies, provides us with skills necessary for participating in society, helping us fit into society and develop a sense of identity and self. Sociology has 3 core theoretical perspectives: structural functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism. Talcott parsons family, socialization, and interaction process (1955) must learn all society"s rules and values, there is social conformity and consensus.
