People are more likely to become friends with people whom they frequently interact: features of propinquity that are not obvious. It is surprising to learn how powerful it is. Propinquity is attractive because of the mere exposure e ect: the more we are exposed to a stimulus, the more we are attracted to it. The mere exposure e ect is a cultural universal. It is not found broadly across species.
