Two basic defects in male-dominated philosophizing: false and damaging claims about women, experiences and perspectives of women have been ignored/distorted. 4 central (shared) claims/positions: women are moral equals of men, experiences of women deserve respect and attention. Require understanding of full range of experiences: traits traditionally associated to women at are least as morally significant as masculine traits. Empathy, sympathy, caring, mercy, altruism, compassion vs. Competitiveness, independence, autonomy, justice, etc: autonomy requires caring (social construct, traditionally feminine ways of moral reasoning are often superior to traditionally masculine ways of reasoning. Emphasis on cooperation, flexibility, openness, family, vs. impartiality, consistency, abstraction, universability. Seminal book in a different voice, 1982. Women experience and think of the world differently in current matrix. Disagree with lawrence kolberg"s six stages of moral development: 1st: fear or punishment.
