Mostly caucasians in middle class america: genetics (family history) People w high cholesterol is 3 times more likely to die of hypertension. More death in winter season because of higher (systolic) bp in the winter months. Increase in bp, sodium retention, increases heart rate, increases. Angiotensin ii (bad guy): sympathetic system high blood pressure. You either blocks its synthesis or its action. Study: more losartan needed in the winter than summer. No losartan at all on some summer days. In the summer, the suicide rate goes down. Melatonin decreases blood pressure a little bit.
