The participants are asked to perform the same cognitive tasks, and to report their perception of acceptability. Because the cognitive task is the same, the data yielded by each task are likely to be very similar. Avoid questions of the sentence being understandable: uncontroversially ungrammatical sentences are often perfectly comprehensible. The experimenter has little control over how participants choose to respond to the sentences presented to them. Acceptability judgment tasks are generally considered intuitively natural for participants: explicit practice sessions are generally unnecessary to familiarize participants with the task.
