Earth was ~uniform w/ all elements mixed together evenly. Iron catastrophe > earth melted w/ denser elements sank and less dense elements rose towards surface. Earth solidi ed to form core & mantle. Water forming oceans came from vapour released from earth"s interior (mantle) & ice from comets. Oldest known evidence of life = anaerobic bacteria. Photosynthesis evolved > utilize sun"s energy > increase o2 > transition from anaerobic org to aerobic organisms (o2-using) First sexual reproduction => multicellular organisms appear: describe the ocean zones & biomes in relation to e/o. Oceanic zones = di erent depths/habitats in the ocean. Pelagic = part of water column - does not touch bottom. Di amounts of light and pressure present at di erent zones. Biomes = regions of the earth that have similar climates & locations. Pelagic = part of h2o column does not touch bottom. Benthic = surface of the bottom or sediment.
