ECED 407 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4.3: Divergent Thinking
Document Summary
Kids are continually classifying, sorting, matching and transforming the objects and materials around them: they have a natural eye for design, they can make good use of attractively displayed, diverse open ended materials. Pay close attention to filling spaces and sometimes will create recognizable representations if an object reminds them of something they know. You can intentionally locate and offer materials that inspire children to investigate, design and learn. Natural objects provide an array of texture, color and shapes that can be used in children"s designs and constructions. Children find it natural to use open ended materials as invented props for their play. Through dramatic play, kids represent what they see and construct their own understandings: creating familiar scripts to workout issues of security and fear. Then acquiring the ability to think symbolically. Teachers can enhance this by providing thoughtful collection of props and materials.
