Believe that people seek therapy when they have deviated too far from some objective norm. Clients may think they are abnormally depressed when they"ve been sad for longer than they think is normal. They might seek help to return to normal behavior. Realities do not exist independent of observational processes. Social constructionism psychological expression of postmodernism values client"s reality without disputing whether it is accurate or rational. Reality is a function of the situations/context in which people live. A person is depressed when he/she adopts a definition of self as depressed; once they adopt the label it is hard to see anything outside it. Range of truths is limited due to the effects of specific historical events and the language uses that dominate in particular social contexts. The range of possible meanings therefore is not infinite.
