Used as migration mechanism for various things through adhesion. Two types connective tissue and basement membrane. Important feature- mesh-like network composed of many molecules that interact with each other. Made up of ground substance (amorphous- (cid:374)o parti(cid:272)ular shape, does(cid:374)"t have o(cid:374)e(cid:895) a(cid:374)d fi(cid:271)er (cid:894)collagen elastin, used to provide structure) Collagen- 25% of protein in body, polymer made up of tropocollogens (alpha chains) Elastin- elastic fibers that are very stretchy. Found between the epithelium and connective tissue. Basal lamina- has lamina kucida + lamina densa. Almina binds collagen and i(cid:374)tegri(cid:374)"s and acts as a bridge between the two layers, Function- mechanical barrier, anchor for epithelium, molecular fit for the epithelium. Different alphas combine with different betas to for(cid:373) i(cid:374)tegri(cid:374)"s that ea(cid:272)h have differe(cid:374)t fu(cid:374)(cid:272)tio(cid:374)s.
