Psychopathology: processes involved are maladapive and not in the indivs best interest, causes personal distress, processes represent a deviance from both cultural and staisical norms, person has diiculty connecing w/ his/her enviro and with him/herself. Indivs w/ a mental disorder are unable to fully consider alternaive ways of thinking, feeling or doing. Results in their psych processes being rigid and paterened. Schizophrenia experienced the same across cultures, 1% manifestaion, and similar ime course (starts in young adulthood) Suggest it has always been around as a disorder, even in early humans. Social anxiety may have evoluionary origins in dominance structures. Garcia efect: one trial learning w. paricular food that makes you sick and then you feel repulsed by it for months if not years. Possibly exaggeraion of normal processes -> being vigilant of enviro can become constant scanning of enviro in anxiety disorders. Males: will deceive women into thinking they"ll take care of them in order to have sex.
