Document Summary
Cerebrovascular accident:a stroke ; brain damage caused by occlusion or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. interruption of blood flow deprives a region of the brain its blood supply, which causes cells in that region to die. Aphasia: difficulty in producing or comprehending speech not produced by deafness or a simple motor deficit; caused by brain damage. Not as speech disturbances are aphasia to receive aphasia diagnosis: patient must have difficulty comprehending, repeating or producing meaningful speech, this difficulty must not be caused by simple sensory or motor deficits or by lack of motivation. Patient must be aware of what is happening in his or her environment and to recognize that others are attempting to communicate. Most language disturbances happen because of damage to the left side of the brain. Neural circuits also play a role in verbal behaviour. Right hemisphere is involved in prosody- the normal rhythm and stress found in speech.
