Medical model: view psychological conditions with symptoms, causes, outcomes, and treatments. Maladaptive: if the behaviour causes distress, impairs daily function, or causes risk of harm. 1: clinical disorders (depression, anxiety, adhd, substance abuse) Pro: organize information about disorders into easier categories. Con: processes were misinterpreted by their labels, over diagnosis/medication can happen. 1: borderline personality disorder: extremes between positive and negative emotions (impulsive, hard relationships) 2: narcissistic personality disorder: inflated self of importance and a need for attention/admiration (self-doubt, fear of abandonment) 3: histrionic personality disorder: excessive attention seeking and dramatic behaviour (high functioning, very sensitive) 4: dissociative fugue: autobiographical memory loss (can develop new personality) 5: depersonalization disorder: feeling a disconnect from one"s body or regular identity/awareness. 6: dissociative amnesia loss of memory with no biological cause. 7: dissociated identity disorder: someone experiences split identity (split control/awareness) 1: generalized anxiety disorder: frequently elevated levels of anxiety that stem from normal challenges and stresses.
