Document Summary

11. 1 hunger and eating ( a behaviour motivated by biological, social, and individual psychological factors) Study of motivation concerns the physiological and psychological process underlying the initiation of behaviors that direct organisms toward specific goals. Initiating factors (motives) included thoughts, feelings, sensations, and bodily processes that lead to goal directed behaviour. Drive : biological trigger that signals deprivation of sth and causes us to seek out what we needed (e. g. water or food) Satisfying drive will activate reward centres likely to respond again in the future. Motivation is essential because it contributes to homeostasis (most basic level) Homeostasis : the body"s physiological processes that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer environment. Incentive (water deprivation=thirst) behaviour (sweetened sports drink)--> behaviour (experience incentive) Allostasis : motivation is also influenced by the anticipation of future needs (besides (drink fluids to reduce drive) current needs)
