Standing committee - permanent and xed jurisdiction. Select committees - created to work a particular issue. Joint committees - house of representatives and senate deal with topics of continuing importance. Division of labour is slower but congress can deal with more issues. Earmarks - legislature that congress needs money for. Bill ca only be introduced by house of representatives or senate. Must have a sponsors name on the top of it. The more cosponsors, the more likely it is to pass. Can go to a drafting service in congress to help write it. In the senate, after announcements, a page brings the draft up and puts it into a bill tray to be written. Similar process in the house of representatives. The primary means by which committees collect and analyze information as legislative policy making gets under way. Hearings usually feature witnesses providing oral testimony, along with questioning of the witnesses by members of congress.
