Document Summary

Runoff and stormwater management in a changing landscape ch8 hydrological processes in urban systems. Rainfall and runoff processes vegetation and surface material affect some precipitation infiltrates through surface and percolates into gw, goes onto trees, flows on surface (overland flow) The amount and timing of runoff from a watershed is a function of several phenomena of different importance degrees (depends on what is modelled). The analysis of runoff processes includes assessment of: precipitation event (it is being affected by global warming), interception and depression storage, evaporation, infiltration. We need to know precipitation levels in an area to understand the cycle cities have slightly different precipitation patterns and storage (impervious material, not much infiltration) Amount (depth of rainfall) and rate (intensity) at which it falls are the most important aspects of rainstorms. Idf curves relate intensity to duration for various probabilities. Use data historically to design stormwater management. Use data to see how much rain/runoff to determine infrastructure.
