Plan 105 september 12, 2012: dandekar"s old vs new. Dandekar describes two situations regarding trash buildup in the downtown core of a city. He explains the merchants" complaints and shows two situations on how the planners could try and remedy the situation. The first involved a knee jerk reaction of simply adding more trashcans, completed without consultation of stakeholders. The second scenario involved an on the ground study by the assistant planner who checked to see if it was just litter or a bigger problem. Using consultation with the merchants he found rescheduling trash collection for the weekend ahead of the busier time should solve the problem. Simply going ahead without consulting all stakeholders and getting a view of the on the ground perspective was not enough for this situation. It was necessary for all stakeholders to understand what was happening and the overall effects of the costs versus what was necessary to get the job done.
