LS322 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1-2: Signify, Academic Journal, Mind Map
Document Summary
As qualitative researchers we are interested in describing the context and meaning of individual and group life and understanding how people make sense of the world around them. Chapter 2: how to conceptualize research: getting started and advancing ongoing projects. Conceptualization, the art and practice of discovery, is the first and some may argue the most difficult part of research. Conceptualization is the process of not only selecting a topic, but formulating a defensible and researchable research problem. Good conceptualization involves moving from a general topic to a clear research problem. The first step of any project is to determine what you want to study. You must then establish the problem your project hopes to solve, including filing in a gap or extending the literature in a new and exciting direction. Five key sources for inspiration divided into two groups: 1 ) data and theory driven conceptualization includes both secondary and primary sources.
