Design requires a range of skills: management, problem solving, visual acuity (insight) Design must be considered from beginning to end. Questions for design should address initial and long term concerns. Goals and messages of client must be clear: also budget and other restrictions. Project brief: outlines & establishes the relationship and level of involvement between client and designer. There are many questions that need to be asked before a project is started: 1 the design problem: what is the budget/needs/limitations, 2 the client designer relationship: responsibilities/involvement/interaction, 3 the viewer: who is this for/what are their characteristics. Essentials of the client designer relationship: respect, open communication, shared vision, trust, creative interaction, collaboration. The designer must understand what they need to do before they create it: also do some additional research. The client: review the client"s communication materials/strategies, likes/dislikes, must make the client feel like they are part of the solution.
