Chapter 6. 3 the future of the environmental profession. Question of whether or not business can actually be sustainable. Can business make the transition to true sustainability. Environmental professionals will play a key role in this. Many more environmental managers that do not just provide end of the pipe solutions. Simple day to day tasks of the ems. Operational and includes specialists and those who are producing the outputs. Includes responsibility for inspection of tasks, observation of routine processes and any actions with in the ems starting with compliance issues and audits. Need to know environmental consequences for processes. System clearly distinguished and seen as something amenable to deliberate work. Fine tuning operations to cope with changing trends. Level four: general management of a division or function. First level where management can be comprehensive and tactical. Includes coordinating activities of operations at various sites. Need to figure out new ways to maximize efficiency and performance.
