Chapter #10 - artemis: realms, hunt (gives success to hunters) Idea that a lot of childbirth goddesses is that there was one mother goddess but as the people got more polytheistic people broke this goddess up and they now have three childbirth goddess. When she was born with her twin brother apollo she was born first and then immediately started helping with the birth of apollo: virgin goddess big on virginity, militantly virginal. Opposite to aphrodite: goddess of the moon as well. However selene is goddess of the moon. But artemis later in greek times became associated w/ the moon and selene: she became connected to the moon. This link with the moon may be associated with the lunar cycle and women"s menstrual period. She was linked to selene goddess of moon in the heavens artemis on earth and hecate in the underworld. Hecate was a cousin of artemis descendant of the titans and goddess of roads in particular crossroads.
