Women usually have low status, family is extended and illiteracy is high. The high mortality rate is attributed with famine and infectious diseases. Age of receding pandemics- characterized by decrease in epidemics and famine and a consequent decline in mortality rate. Fertility rate continues to be high which results in a population explosion.
