Work is one if an object is moved through some displacement while a force is applied to it. The work done by a force is the area under the force versus displacement graph. Work is only done by the part of the force acting parallel to the objects direction of motion. Work can either be positive or negative. Alternative to newton"s second law: relate the speed of an object to the net work done on it by external forces. Work-energy theorem: the net work done on an object is equal to the change in the object"s kinetic energy (assuming net force on object is constant) Positive net work increases the object"s speed and negative net work decreases its speed. A force is conservative if the work it does moving an object between two points is the same no matter what path is taken.
