PSYC 2440 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5-8: Reinforcement, Playtime
Document Summary
Chapter 5: a conditioned reinforcer is a stimulus that was not originally reinforcing, but has become reinforcing by being paired with other reinforcers. An example is the whistle blowing at the time of the puck dropping in hockey; the puck dropping is the backup reinforcer. This reinforces the behaviour of doing good work in school, but you can"t collect compliments and cash them in at any point therefore it is not a token. Another example is being told that dinner is ready. For example, if your mom no longer gives you an allowance for doing chores, you will stop doing chores. Application exercise: exercise involving others, the probable reinforcer is admiring the leaves as it strengthens the behaviour of walking through the park. This reinforcer is unconditioned as the stimulus of seeing the leaves was not originally paired with the consequence of admiration: the probable reinforcer is the runner"s high as it strengthens the behaviour of running.
