Performance on wisdom tasks does not decline with age. 50 years old: re-evaluation phase years old: liberation phase. Reflect on past accomplishments, formulate new goals o 60. Desire to complete unfinished works and fulfill desires not yet done. Chapter 18: social and personality development in late adulthood. Despair = last stage, in which older adults must achieve a sense of satisfaction with their lives. Ego integrity = the feeling that one"s life has been worthwhile. Search begins in middle adulthood, but is most central in late adulthood. Must come to term with death and accepting its imminence. Failure results in despair not enough time to make changes before death. Linked to well-being (rather than only for death preparation: self-positive reminiscences linked to better mental health, young adults reminisce more often than middle-aged/older adults. Feel differently about it, done for different purposes. Young adults search for tried and true methods of solving problems.
