Police officers say they join the police for two reasons. Who wants to be a police officer: help society, nature of the job. Macho image entices a lot of people typically attracts white males, working class, those looking for job security and financial stability in the past, women and minority groups have not considered policing. Selection team of recruiters- rcmp has a national recruitment team individual recruitment officer. Depends on how many new recruits are wanted. Bad candidates are seen as a waste of resources(training, time and effort) Hiring criteria personality tests, cognitive ability tests, education, physical fitness tests. Written exams, oral interviews, special skills assessment, Everywhere else is a minimum of grade 12. Popat- physical abilities test, pare- physical abilities requirements evaluation(simulates scenario with three components) 2km run, pull and push activity, squat thrust, flexibility test. 61 percent of respondents used psychological screening as a way to select applicants.
